Core Goals of UTOS
The Utah Open Source Foundation is focused on growing Open Source in Utah through community, technology, business and education. UTOSF is building a community where members of different communities can come together to help each other succeed. The UTOSF plans to accomplish this through 4 basic areas of focus.
Community
- Provide the community with needed services it currently does not have in a local environment.
- Help the community become recognized both at a local/state level and national/international level for the ingenuity we know already exists.
- Identify and help community members obtain skills needed for employment.
Technology
- Help individuals/communities design and develop software to help user groups, individuals and corporations succeed.
- Enable the software developed to become recognized as being valuable and useful in the larger available open source communities.
Business
- Inform and educate businesses who are looking for solutions that low-cost/free alternatives can save them million/year.
- Educate business leaders on the valuable resources available in the user group communities.
- Provide services to businesses who's market is the technologically savvy.
- Advertising
- Software
- Hardware
Education
- Enable primary/secondary/higher education facilities to use free/open source software (FOSS) at a cost savings.
- Provide students with an education on software that will not require a lifetime of license fees and heartache.
- Enable educators to be paid more due to less licensing costs
